The exhibition "Entre Forças: Humana Natureza" brings together the works of thirteen students from the Postgraduate Program in Contemporary Photography Discourse at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon.

Throughout the academic year 2015/2016, the students developed their own projects under the guidance of tutors António Júlio Duarte, João Tabarra, José Luís Neto, and Paulo Catrica. An analysis of the works, which were developed during the course, revealed that they diverged into two powerful themes: the force of Humanity and the force of Nature, with all the vulnerabilities that any force may contain. The increase in human power through technological research has been a persistent topic of discussion in recent years; artificial intelligence, for example, is advancing inexorably.

The simultaneous introduction of the words "human" and "nature" into the world’s most well-known search engine immediately directs us to the concept of "human nature," imposing on the human condition a superiority over the norms of Nature. However, over the centuries, and despite its parallel existence with Humanity, Nature has resisted being humanized: the wind will continue to blow, the river's water will never alter its course, and the earth, when it so wishes, can always shake Humanity to remind it of its magnificence. This confrontation between human and natural forces has, in fact, traversed the history of Existence, shaping various lines of thought.

A exposição «Entre Forças: Humana Natureza» reúne os trabalhos dos treze alunos da pós-graduação em Discursos da Fotografia Contemporânea, da Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa.

Ao longo do ano lectivo de 2015/2016 os alunos desenvolveram projectos autorais com os tutores António Júlio Duarte, João Tabarra, José Luís Neto e Paulo Catrica. Da análise feita aos trabalhos, que foram sendo desenvolvidos durante a formação, observou-se que os mesmos se bifurcavam em duas pujantes temáticas: a força do Homem e a força da Natureza, com todas as fragilidades que uma força possa conter. O aumento do poder humano através da pesquisa tecnológica tem sido discutido nestes últimos anos de forma assídua; a inteligência artificial avança, por exemplo, incontornavelmente.A introdução em simultâneo das palavras «humana» e «natureza» no motor de pesquisa mais conhecido a nível mundial, reencaminha-nos, de imediato, para o conceito «natureza-humana» incidindo sobre a condição humana uma superioridade face à norma da Natureza.

No entanto, ao longo dos séculos e apesar da sua paralela convivência com o Homem, a Natureza tem resistido a deixar-se humanificar: o vento continuará a soprar, a água do rio jamais alterará o seu curso e a terra, quando bem entender, poderá sempre sacudir o Homem de forma a lembrá-lo da sua magnificência. Este confronto entre as forças humana e natural, na verdade, tem percorrido a história da Existência, desenhando várias linhas de pensamento.
